PHILOSOPHY OF MINISTRY - OUR DISTINCTIVE CHARACTERISTICS
Distinctive Characteristics
- Our church model may be described as a mission-fellowship. While we will do many things there are two that are of special emphasis: authentic community and bold confidence in the gospel as we share it with our friends and neighbors. We see the confluence of these two things in scripture. 1 Thessalonians. 2:8 says, “We loved you so much that we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well.” For these things and everything else to be successful it must be under girded in prayer. Prayer is fundamental, not supplemental. It must filter through everything.
- Our worship style may be described as a reverent yet relaxed environment of passionate and participatory worship. It could be called “ancient-modern” worship. It will draw from our rich historical tradition of hymns and creeds. It will also incorporate the best of hymns and scriptural songs arising in the present day. Our musical style is modern and is eclectic, incorporating the various gifts of our people.
- Our leadership style is to continually develop leaders who will reproduce new leaders. Knowing God has gifted each person in his church, we mobilize people for ministry. We shepherd people in truth, with tenderness and love. Rather than being passive we must be active leaders in our families, in the workplace, and in society.
- Our relationship to the community is to seek the peace and prosperity of our community as we take the gospel to where they live, work, and play. We seek to initiate and support community ministries.
