ANDREW: Renewing our Mission and Vision
Recently the elders approved changes to our Mission, Vision & Values. In the prior version we dreamed about what we wanted to be and do, but did not answer HOW we would do it. We think the changes bring greater focus to how we will accomplish our vision. These changes are NOT changing the direction, purpose, or identity of our church. The change is to clarify what we are already about so that our various ministries are focused individually on the mission and vision, aligned for unity toward the mission and vision, and moving in a direction to make growing followers of Jesus who influence others with the gospel.
Our Mission statement is now more concise and more memorable. Our mission is to be an authentic, worshiping community proclaiming and embodying the gospel of Jesus Christ.
The former mission statement was to be an authentic, worshiping community proclaiming to our neighbors the gospel of Jesus Christ so that together we are progressively transformed by His power and passionately live for Him. You can see that we took the whole second half and condensed it into the word “embodying”. The footnote explains that we believe that as Christians and non-Christians interact with the gospel it transforms both people.
Our vision is unfolded with more clarity. We must influence unchurched people and build authentic friendships with them, and we must help followers of Jesus to grow by developing a gospel-centered lifestyle. This is the foundation that affects all of life’s relationships (children, singles, marrieds, parents) and motivates and enables us to influence the culture of our community and world. While God works in a variety of ways and places we are focusing on three environments in which we can best help people be growing followers of Jesus: Sunday Mornings, Small Groups, and Serving. We would love to see everyone involved in these environments.
Read through the Mission, Vision & Values on our website: http://www.springrunpc.org/our-mission/. Memorize the mission. Think about how you can help new people move into the three environments. Remember that the gospel changes everything!
