FLETCH: How to Get the Most out of your Community Group

Community groups are the heart and soul of Spring Run.  I want to encourage  you to be a part of continuing to make them successful.  Here are four ways you can get the most out of your Community Group.

Reach In
Find ways to help your CG Leader.  Do they need help organizing meetings, food, children’s activities?  Does the Host for your CG need help cleaning their house?  Get there early and help set things up or stay a few minutes later to clean up. Be a part of the discussion.  The one place you should feel accepted is in your CG and it should be a safe place to share what is on your heart, learn to pray (even out loud), and ask questions about things you may not understand.  Show up and be on time.  Your attendance at CG is CRITICAL, not just for you and your family but others benefit from you being there.

Reach Across
Look out for the interests and needs of others in your group.  Everyone in your group is dealing with some kind of situation in which they need encouragement.  Find out what it is and figure out a way to encourage them or help them through it.  Pray consistently for your group.  Write down everyone’s prayer requests and then pray for them during the week.  Give someone a call and check in with them.  Think of different ways in which you can reach across the room and serve others.  I know some couples who have offered to babysit for free so a young couple can go out on a date.  Don’t forget to thank, encourage and support your CG Leader, they put a lot of time and effort into leading your group.

Reach Down
Take a serious look at your own heart and see if you are engaging the gospel.  We are all called to live in the daily rhythm of faith and repentance.  If you are growing deeper in your walk with Christ then you will have more to give others.  Take to heart what you are learning in CG, at church, in any activity you are involved in and apply the gospel of grace to it.   Your goal as a disciple is to grow into maturity, dying to sin more and more and living for Christ and His glory.  Who knows, you may be the next CG Leader!

Reach Out
Our CG’s are designed to multiply not stagnate.  This means consistently having new people join your group, growing to a size that is not a “small group” anymore and then “sending off” some from your group to start a new CG.  Look around you and see who you can reach out to bring into your group.  Look for new people at church or people who are not in a group.  Look for neighbors who you think would like to check out your CG.  Maybe there are a few families in your neighborhood that you could start a totally new group with by doing an investigative or topical Bible study.

So, make the most of your Community Group, it’s what you were made for!

“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, 25 not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.
