The New City Catechism
New City Catechism
A “new” catechism? What’s wrong with the Westminster Catechism? Actually, there is nothing wrong with our beloved Westminster Catechism, however, it was written over 350 years ago. The latest reformed catechism entitled, “New City Catechism” was written in part by Tim Keller and others who are part of the Gospel Coalition and utilizes the Biblical theology of the Westminster and Heidelberg Catechisms. It brings a fresh question and answer format to the twenty first century. I would encourage you to read more about it at: New City Catechism.
What I love about the New City Catechism is that it has some awesome web features. If you go to the website: http://www.newcitycatechism.com you can access the Q & A, verses, commentary, a video and a prayer. Utilizing these features may help keep your kids (and yourself) a little more engaged in our age of technology.
Here are some suggestions for using the New City Catechism:
- Family Devotionals. There are (conveniently) 52 questions so you could do one question per week with your family. Watch the video, study the verses, read the commentary, pray the prayer.
- Personal Devotionals. See above plus get to know your theology better.
- Small Groups. Go through the catechism in a small group Bible study or Community Group.
- Share your ideas and thoughts of how you think the New City Catechism can be used.
All for Jesus,
