Born and raised in The Commonwealth of Virginia Marty grew up hunting and fishing with his father throughout the Tri-City area, from hunting in Dinwiddie County to fishing on Lake Chesdin and the Appomattox River. He received his undergraduate degree from Virginia Tech, a B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies with minors in History and Religion. After graduation, he moved to Norfolk, VA, and worked in wholesale distribution for a mutual fund company. After college, he married his college sweetheart, Meredith. She moved to Norfolk after their marriage and was a teacher in the public school system of Chesapeake, VA.
Marty eventually grew tired of the financial industry and found himself spending more of his time planning and leading the youth ministry of the church he and Meredith were attending. It was this work and the session of Trinity Presbyterian Church of Norfolk, VA that lead him to pursue an M.Div. from Covenant Seminary. After seminary, Marty took a call to serve as Dir. of Student Ministries at Seven Rivers Presbyterian Church in Lecanto, FL, and in the summer of 2016, God in his grace called Marty back to the Commonwealth to Sycamore Presbyterian.
In 2019 God began working in the hearts of Marty and Meredith with a call to a new place, and in the Fall of 2022, the Session of Spring Run called Marty as Assistant Pastor of Church Planting. Marty, Meredith, and their 3 daughters are excited about the place God has called them home to Amelia County, and excited about the work God is doing through his church, River Run Presbyterian.
